Lunch at Sakura Park

Ed Johnson

“Sara Sakura would like to invite you to join her for lunch at Sakura Park,” Lili said to Galileo. “You'll enjoy seeing her beautiful park there as well as meeting Sara herself. How does that sound?” Galileo smiled then responded: “Oh yes, I'd love to meet her there, please convey my greetings!”

When Galileo arrived at Sakura Park, Sara invited him to sit next to her at low tables overlooking a Zen garden of raked sand. “This lunch is very delicious, thanks so much! This traditional architecture, both buildings and gardens, is really impressive. Please tell me more about your design approach.”

Sara explained: “Well, as Lili probably mentioned, we try to introduce traditional architectural features...including respect for natural settings...into the modern urban environment, which seems to grow increasingly dystopian...so our goal involves making places where we live and work, much more livable, comfortable, and less gloomy.”

After noticing that Galileo was listening attentively, Sara continued: “As you can see, we have several structures here at Sakura Park. Our lunch venue reflects Edo period architecture, similar to styles seen at famous historical sites such as Kyoto. As you can see, we also have meditation mats overlooking the garden courtyard, as well as a small hibachi setting for visitors to sit and chat while enjoying their tea. Next door, there is also a small pool, where guests can float, as well as a pavilion with lounges where they can relax.”

Galileo was impressed: “Wow, this is amazing! I can see why visitors want to come here often and linger as long as possible. So, I'm guessing Sakura Park is a bit bigger than the Cyberpunk Garden Lili showed me earlier...although both seem to fairly spacious, given their somewhat urban setting.”

Sara nodded: “Yes indeed, both are located in urban areas, but on the outskirts...however, we also develop pocket parks, near very dense urban centers...would you like to visit some of those?” Galileo quickly responded: “Oh yes, please! Those tiny parks would be especially fascinating in how they cope with challenging urban congestion....”
