Jekyll Rival's New Facilities, Part 2 - Android Lab

Ed Johnson

After the Jekyll Rival AI re-emerged when the supercomputer became operational in its new location, the next order of business involved establishing the new android lab where Rival's many humanoid robotic assistants could be maintained and repaired. While the supercomputer provided the overall “mind” for Rival, not much could be achieved without the help of the androids who served as the “hands” for Rival's many interactions with the world.

The existing androids, who had traveled from the asteroid belt, carried out the initial development activity at Rival's new facility here on Earth. At first, they simply recovered as needed at portable recharging stations, but after so much intense activity, all the androids needed more thorough recharging and some of them needed repairs and other maintenance.

Jekyll Rival android asked Sarah to help the androids set up the new lab, drawing on her expertise as JE's roboticist. As described in the previous episode, he was especially keen on incorporating more robust ethical standards in all the Rival androids, although only minimal adjustments could be made within the existing limited maintenance protocols.

As soon as the new recharging and maintenance gear became operational, Jekyll Rival android and Sarah discussed the next steps. Aside from the ongoing need to monitor Hyde Rival's nefarious activities, they also realized that returning to Earth opened vast new opportunities that would have been irrelevant in the remote asteroid belt. They envisioned entirely new lines of androids and gynoids, capable of significantly improved human interactions, with sensitivity and compassion not possible in earlier humanoid robots. The new artificial sentient beings could fill important roles in caregiving, medicine, and other crucial human needs. To achieve such ambitious goals, they would need JE team help, especially drawing on Olympia's long experience with logistics. We'll explore these new projects in upcoming stories.
