JE located Jonson Station near the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter to allow convenient mining of the many resources readily available in the wide variety of asteroids available there. The primary goal involves extracting materials to support human needs as well as the physical station itself. However, valuable materials which are now rare on Earth can be recovered and exported to the home planet at relatively modest cost.
JE uses a small fleet of shuttles to transport humans and robots between the station and the larger asteroids, as well as numerous frequent cargo loads. Some larger asteroids have shuttle landing pads and sizeable mines, while smaller asteroids may be mined using more modest robotic devices.
