Jonson Station provides a substantial space habitat in the form of a rotating wheel space station, operating near the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The rotation provides artificial gravity to the various rooms located within the wheel rim, and is heavily shielded to protect humans from harmful radiation. A central hub provides landing hangars for spaceships traveling to and from the station; the spaceships must maneuver carefully to match the station's position and rotation before landing.
The station draws needed materials by mining nearby asteroids, as well as energy from built-in solar panels and other power sources, thus it can operate with only minimal external support. However, a brisk trade has developed which allows surplus asteroid resources to be exchanged for extra goods and services which cannot be readily produced locally. In addition, a variety of people (and robots) come and go from the station, providing much appreciated contact with Earth and colonies located elsewhere throughout the solar system and beyond.
Much of the narrative action for this blog takes place at Jonson Station, so the various functional spaces located along the station rim will play a large part in future stories.
